Internship application - 7 Steps to Success

You are interested in doing an internship in Australia but don’t know where to start?
Here is a short summary of the '7 simple steps' to fulfill your perfect internship.

Step 1 - Enquire
Read through the Intern Information to find out what our placements are all about.
Next, choose the field in which you want to gain further experience and training. These are only a small sample of what is currently available so if you don’t see your ‘perfect internship’ listed then please apply and detail your specific requirements.
We will carefully read through your application and requirements and send you further information about fees, visa, insurance, process, etc
 
Step 2 - Application
Once you have realised the fantastic opportunity available, you can request an application form. The application form must be completed and returned with your CV & Cover Letter.
We will asses all this information and already start thinking about which company would offer you the greatest experience.
We are ready to answer all of your questions and available for a phone or Skype meeting.


Step 3 - Deposit
If you have made up your mind that you want to take a big step in your career, then it is time to make an initial deposit. We will send you an invoice with all the details you need.
Once the payment has arrived in Sunny Sydney, then we will confirm receipt and send you a warm welcoming email.
 
Step 4 – Interview & Placement
Our experienced internship placement team will personally match your specific learning requirements with a skilled & professional host company from our large company database.
A phone or Skype interview with the company will be arranged at a time to suit you.
If you are pleased with the host company and if they are happy to accept you then we will arrange an agreement to secure your internship. At this stage, the final placement fee is due.


Step 5 – Final Arrangements
It is now time to apply for the Working Holiday Visa (417 or 462), book your flights, arrange your insurance (which must cover personal liability while you are at the internship) and sort out an accommodation. Don’t get stressed!!! We will assist you with all these things and answer all of your questions along the way.

 

Step 6 - Arrival
Once you have waved goodbye to your family, friends & pets then sit back and relax....you are on the plane to Australia!!!
It is easy to catch a taxi from the airport to your new home but we can arrange an airport transfer if needed. After sleeping off the jetlag, come to our office to say ‘G’day!’. We will give you a Welcome Package which will assist in making your first few weeks in Sydney a little easier and we can hook you up with a mobile sim-card.

Step 7 – Internship Start
Arrive on the first day with your eyes & ears open ready to learn. The company will give you a comprehensive induction and run through the training plan for the duration of your placement.

Surf Weekend

If you would like to discover the Australian culture, lifestyle, nature and everything else about Australia and have a lot of fun you have to check the events on our homepage.
There is a variety of trips and the best thing; you will usually get at least a discount of 15% when you book these events.
I went to the Surf Camp this weekend and it was such a great experience. You definitely have to take the chance to learn how to surf during your stay in Australia.
It is very easy to book this trip and to make this adventure come true.
You just have to have a look in our events calendar and search for the Surf Camp. Then you have to click on “Book here” and the link will automatically lead you to the booking page of “Surf Camp Australia”, there you have to choose the “Ultimate Surf Weekend” and that’s it.
Very easy! You don’t have to worry, the normal price is $345 but if you use our promotional code you will get it for $270. That’s really great, isn’t it?
Our meeting point on Friday evening was the “Wake up Point” in Pitt Street, it is very easy to find as it is close to Central Station.
First I was very surprised that there were so many people, but everything was well organised. There were about 90 people and there were 3 buses which carried us to the Surf Camp.
 About 45minutes after the departure we had a stop. This was really cool because everyone was hungry and there were lots of opportunities to eat something.
All in all it took about 2 hours until we arrived at Seven Mile Beach.
After the arrival at 9pm, we all came together and one of the instructors introduced the others to us and explained everything about the following two days.
Afterwards, he split the camp into two groups, we got to know our roommates and finally everyone went to bed.

Saturday
My group had breakfast at 9:00am and our first surf lesson started at 10:30am. Even though it rained and was very windy, we were able to learn the Surf “basics” on the beach and to have our first experience with the surfboard in the water.
It is not as easy as it seems, however the instructors are all very skilled and they explain everything we needed to know and even assisted us to manage our boards in the water.
In addition, they were always making jokes and knew how to keep us motivated, so it was always very funny and amusing.
What was also very cool was the fact that there were always some instructors who took pictures and videos. These were posted on Facebook at the end of the trip for everyone to see.
After two hours our lesson was finished and we had a great lunch. We were then given a break for about 2 hours and the second surf lesson started soon afterwards.
We got to know more about surfing and began to improve.
In the evening we all had a barbecue and the atmosphere was really nice. We watched the pictures and videos of the surf lessons from the day which were very funny, and afterwards we went to a pub for a few drinks.

Sunday
On Sunday we had breakfast at 7:00am and our surf lesson started at 8:30am. I was so happy because the weather was much better than on Saturday, it was not that windy, the sun was shining and the waves were perfect for beginners.
The lesson lasted two hours which was long enough as most of us were now able to paddle and to stand up and we got to know how to drop into and ride across the waves.
It was amazing and everyone was very proud and happy!
After lunch we had some time to relax, pack our things and enjoy the sun either on the beach or by the pool.
We then had a so-called board lesson where we became familiar with the surf rules, weather conditions, the board, the water and so on..it was very interesting!
We watched the latest pictures and videos of our day in the surf.
All of us on the camp received a $20 voucher for the Rip Curl store in Sydney CBD.
The bus ride home went smoothly and then we carried on the fun by partying at side bar.

I have to mention it again...if you have the opportunity to come to Sydney, then you must jump onto the surf camp! Apart from learning how to surf, you will also have a great weekend on the beach and meet lots of interesting and funny people!

Tropfest 2013

 


What is it?
The Tropfest is the world's largest short film festival and has become known as one of Australia's most iconic cultural events.
It will take place at Sydney's Domain in the Royal Botanic Gardens and they expect about 150,000 people to attend.
There will be also live satellites which are linked to outdoor locations in major cities such as Melbourne, Canberra, Perth, Brisbane, Hobart, Adelaide and Surfers Paradise.
Anyone can enter into this competition.
16 Finalists are finally chosen form over 700 annual entries. They compete for more than $100,000 prize money.
The entrants take the competition very seriously as it offers the winner the chance to start a successful career in film or television.
All films are unique and they must include the Tropfest signature item which this year is a "Balloon".
The winner will be selected live on this night by several high profile industry and celebrity judges.


History:
The festival's name descends from the first year 's location, the Tropicana Cafe in Darlinghurst, a suburb of Sydney.
In 1993 John Polson, a well-known Australian-born filmmaker, started the "Tropicana Short Film Festival" as an informal short film screening for cast, crew and friends.
More than 200 people were interested and joined  this first screening.
John was so inspired by the outcome of the festival, that he decided to expand the short film festival.
Finally a fully-fledged short film festival was the next step.



When is it?
It's on Sunday, 17th February, 2013.
The official festival program will start at 7:30pm.


What to expect?
Tropfest is free to attend.
It's an outdoor celebration which includes live music and entertainment, public catering and bars, red carpet arrivals and of course the exciting film screenings followed by an awards ceremony.
As it's an Australian "highlight" event, there will be lots of people.
So get there early to reserve a space.
Hint: take a picnic and rug, and maybe an umbrella.

Free activities in Sydney

Living in Australia is expensive, so it's always great to explore things that are free!!

Here are some of the best activities and things to see and do that are of no cost :)

Spend a day at the Royal Botanic Gardens

You can have a relaxed day, enjoy a picnic and take in one of the best views of the Opera House and the Harbour Bridge. There's a tropical centre and an oriental garden. Free tours are available!

Explore Sydney with a free guided tour

Learn about Sydney and get tips on what to do and where to go from your local tour guide. The tours run every day at 10.30 am and 2.30 pm and are always free.

Visit Sydney Observatory

Located at the Rocks, this is Australia's oldest observatory. You can learn facts about astrology and meteorology and explore the skies through a telescope!

Walk across the Harbour Bridge

A must do, and if you do it by night you get some amazing views of sparkling lights!

Visit the Art Gallery of NSW

Many exhibitions are for free. Check their website to see what's on.

Coastal Walk

A day is always great when you spend it on the beach. Walk along the coast and explore the beaches between Bondi and Coogee. Sit in the sun and go for a swim, it's always free :)

Another nice walk is the Spit Bridge to Manly walk. Catch a bus to Spit Bridge, enjoy the 10km walk and take a ferry back to Circular Quay!

Explore the markets

There are so many markets to discover: Glebe, Paddington, Paddy's, Bondi,... there are markets in almost every suburb!

Visit Centennial Park

This is a huge park with green lawns, lakes, tennis courts & an entertainment quarter. It's perfect for taking a walk or jog or simply relax on the grass!

Fish Markets Pyrmont

Visit the largest fish market in the southern hemisphere, take a look at the stalls and have a meal at one of the restaurants. It is open every day from 7am - 4pm. Tours are available.

Trip to Manly

This weekend I visited Manly with some friends :)

We took the ferry to get there. It takes about half an hour and is a nice ride with great views!

Once we arrived there, we went directly to the beach ;) On the way there were Christmas decorations everywhere, hanging on the palms.

 

The beach was really crowded, but still enjoyable :) 

 

We've spent a great and lazy day on the beach, relaxing and sleeping in the sun and observing all the people around us :D 

 On the ferry ride back we took some amazing pictures and even saw a cruise ship departing :)

 

Manly is a beautiful place to visit for a day trip!!

Jervis Bay Trip

This weekend I went on the Jervis Bay trip. It was a great day with many things to see!

First we went to theMT. Bulli Lookout overlooking Wollongong. It was a spectacular view!

 

Our next stop was the Nan Tien Temple. We were lucky to see it, as it normally isn't part of this tour. But someone from a different tour left his phone there...thank you!! :)

 

Nan Tien Temple is the biggest buddhist temple in the southern hemisphere. It really is huge!

We drove on and finally reached Jervis Bay then.

We had a great sunny day and with the water sparkling and the white sand I felt like being in paradise :)

Our cruise started here. We relaxed in the sun and enjoyed the boat ride until we spotted the first dolphins!

 We spent 2 hours watching dolphins and soaking in the sun! What a great sunday :)

On our way back we stopped at Fitzroy Falls. The view reminded me a little of the Blue Mountains.

It was a fantastic day, really worth the early wake up :) Our great guide Bob entertained us with some Aboriginal stories and answered every question. The trips are always good fun!! I can only recommend them :)

Sydney Beaches

Now that summer's approaching it's the perfect time to check out some of the beaches around Sydney! Don't forget to bring sunscreen and some friends :)

Bondi Beach

This famous beach is known all over the world for its great surfing waves and the masses of people gathering together. If the water is still too cold you can go to the Bondi Icebergs Pool right next to the beach! You won't get bored here, there are always things going on and something to look at.

Tamarama Beach

Also known as "Glamarama", this beach is smaller and less crowded than Bondi. You can grab a body board and catch some waves or relax in the park right behind the beach. There are also coin operated BBQs!

Manly Beach

Take the ferry to Manly and enjoy the beautiful view of Sydney's skyline. Relax at the beach, do some kayaking or explore the Manly markets next to the beach.

Coogee Beach

This beach can be reached when you do the Coastal Walk starting in Bondi. It's a 6km walk that offers great views of the coast. Coogee is perfect for swimming and snorkeling because of its calm waters. Stay here the whole day, watch the sunset and enjoy an evening in one of the bars !

Watson's Bay

The relaxed atmosphere and the beautiful views of the skyline definitely make Watson's Bay worth the trip. The small boats on the water and the trees all around the park make it a very picturesque spot. You can catch the ferry or bus to get there.
